“ I have come to the last three meetups and will continue to attend as long as they are held. Every time i learn a great deal from pepole in the design feild who have been, and continue to be, successful. Thank you Apartment Therapy team, this is a great thing! ”
— Zachary Feltoon on May 15, 2009.
“ Within 5 min. of the last show, 30 of 35 people left. Two of a dozen wine bottles were opened. Independent designers I now see as socially stressed craftspeople who are SHY (I'm an inventor type who pays students to do routine craft work). "Green Design" can be an oxymoron, designer goods being rare luxuries. The lamps there cost THOUSANDS and are made of energy-intensive, extremely heavy materials. To sequester CO2, sell heirloom wood furniture to limousine liberals, the few people who avidly buy scribbled Fine Art and new SoHo furniture. Sales pitches must avoid celebrating 40% of NYC power being nuclear or billion dollar Ikea's pounce on Brooklyn, which now offers lastingly cool products. I have fun machinery and was curious about collaboration. Early, lounge chairs held zombies. Later, obese menopausal members took ROMANTIC offense to chat about filament bulb bans! Maybe mercury vapors within hermetically sealed skyrise buildings have already accumulated from broken "green" CFLs? ”

“ I truly enjoyed the dialogue that took place. I do however wish there could have been more of it; I think longer Meetups with more discussion time are desperately needed given that the event occurs monthly. I found the Open House Tour amusing but hope that future Meetups feature more realistic situations that the audience can identify with. ”
— Shannon S. Christmas on Feb 7, 2008.
“ Can't wait for the next one. ”
— cannon on Oct 5, 2007.
“ Great group for a community that really needed it. I think members would benefit from more interaction and participation. Perhaps a post-presentation discussion period/mingle where a topic is presented and all are invited to stay and discuss would be fun. ”
— jennifer_b. on Sep 7, 2007.
“ This meetup both informs and creates a design community. Presentations and interaction among design professionals makes it dynamic and lends the sense that ideas are brewing in the room. Awesome. Thanks Maxwell! ”
— Johnny Belitsky on Sep 6, 2007.
“ it was my first meetup group so i have nothing to compare it to, but overall, I would say it was a very successful event. (even though 2 people did not show up to present, it was still a very interesting evening) ”
— Lisa Merril on Jun 8, 2007.
“ I think this group has great potential and hope it evolves over time to take advantage of the incredible creative force that lives in this city. Also, I truly appreciate Maxwell's willingness to take on the responsibility and effort to make this happen- it was a very good first meeting. My comments above reflect my high expectations and shouldn't be taken as a criticism of Maxwell's hard work. ”

This is not only good practice, for ones own home, but it helps others that may well one day help you right back. It's also a pay it forward affair. And they all seem to have faith in it, so I'll have faith in it too. ”

“ It's a great chance to hear people discuss design and to meet creative people. There's a good mix of people from various backgrounds. Maxwell Gillingham-Ryan is a natural moderator. He is a deft hand at leading large groups. He's easygoing and friendly. He encourages everyone to be open with their ideas and knowledge and do everything in a spirit of helpfulness. He's really astute, too. He gets right to the heart of a thing with clarity and in such a gentle manner that there's no sting. He makes it fun. It's good. ”

“ Social misfit promo group for book writer (cheerleadingSPAM vs. steak). Do you really desire THERAPY for being affordability near your work in a "homey" yet kind of cool apartment? Latest topic: "GREEN". Has anything literally or figuratively green sold for more than a month? Pet rocks? Spectral Rubiks' Cube? Couches? Gumby wire dolls!? My 1919 brand Poltrona Frau "smoking chair" is stuffed with horse hair and made of cherry wood, and comes in any color that's black. Dude's an affected wannabee, not the next R.B.Fuller or F.L.Wright...a promoter of instead of innovator. Wants to turn NYC into utterly depressing Tokyo, so indeed add the price of therapy, but how to make that a feature instead of a bug?! Surprise: fabric and twp ergonomically-challenged chairs in the corner. Fabrication Nation, backlash trend fiends and lost souls, basically, if you attend any meet ups. Flying cars. Fridges that alert your computer, stuff that nobody this living side of HELL will ever actually BUY. ”
— Nik on Oct 16, 2008.
