Welcome to our 2009 New York Design Meetups Experiment...

This month I am proud to have Katherine Hable Sweeney and Susan Hable Smith of Hable Construction in the house to speak about the inspiration and building of their distinctive company. There will be plenty of Q&A and then shmoozing and networking afterwards.

    Katherine and Susan were really open about their process, their business, and some of the stumbling blocks they've had to get past to create their beautiful product (not to mention that they were really fun!). Knoll is a terrific space, and I also enjoyed learning a bit about their history. A great first meetup for me.

    Darn! Just realized this is a Wednesday and not Thurs. Very sad, I teach on Wednesdays. Question: Are they still producing locally, if so how local, if not have they gone offshore because of more competitive pricing?

I think in the future it would be helpful to include other speakers that could elaborate on some of the issues brought up by the speakers. For example, the lovely Hable Sisters spoke about manufacturing and marketing and perhaps other specialists in these fields could be part of the discussion enhancing and giving more detail on the practical issues of these topics.
